Opal Trips - Light Rail

This dataset contains Official Light Rail Utilisation figures. Opal tap-on/tap-off data (representing an individual entering and exiting a Light Rail station), is aggregated to a total monthly figure representing the estimated number of trips.

This is a companion discussion topic for the original entry at https://opendata.transport.nsw.gov.au/dataset/opal-trips-light-rail

The data contains a card type called CTP which by Jan 2021 was 24% of the monthly trips. What is this ticket type? What does CTP stand for?

Hi @mat_hounsell_uts - you are everywhere today  - we’ll update the documentation but it stands for “Contactless Payments” and definitely not obvious… so thanks for letting us know.

  1. An Opal Trip is defined as a tap-on/tap-off pair (including where only a single tap-on or tap-off is recorded)

How are multimodal journey’s classified and would they be counted in this data set?
Like if someone travels by train, transfers at central then taps of at UNSW?
