Hi Brandon,

Thank you for the info session. I have a quick question regarding the challenge and the criteria.

My company has been developing a product for a couple of years now, with TfNSW in mind as our main client, focusing on innovating the bus network through the incorporation of hardware into the existing infrastructure. While our solution does not directly address enhancing how passengers’ access and use transport information during unplanned disruptions, it does include some features that will utilize API data sets—albeit not in the exact manner outlined by the challenge.

Could you please advise whether there might still be an opportunity for a solution like ours to be considered for this challenge? Alternatively, are there other programs, initiatives, or departments within TfNSW where our product might be a better fit?

We would be happy to explain in further detail about our product and how it works.

Kind regards,

David

Is anyone interested in partnering up for this challenge?

I’ve got a background in Software Development and Cyber Security.

Hi David,

Submissions to the challenge don’t need to have a customer interface, they can be a back end solution that broadcasts information to existing apps and passenger information solutions.

We recommend visiting Buy.NSW to find other opportunities.

Thanks,
Brandon

Hello Brandon,

Thank you for the information provided in the intro session.

Could you clarify the “Travel Expenditure” in the “Expenditure Categories” and what eligible travel is required to conduct agreed project and collaboration activities in Australia? Will the domestic conference relevant to public transport management be eligible? This might be a good opportunity to disseminate the challenge funded by TfNSW and learn from other jurisdictions.

Thank you!

Wei-Ting

A follow-up question: Is there a word limit for the application? Thank you!

Wei-Ting

Hi Wei-Tang,

All expenditure must be related to the trial. For example, travelling to a trial location to observe in user testing.

Thanks,
Brandon

Hi Wei-Tang,

There is no word limit.

Thanks,
Brandon

Hi @Brandon,

Unfortunately I was unable to join the info session, where can I find the recording?

We are considering a solution that that we feel fits the brief well, however it heavily relies on a (relatively small) addition to the Opal Travel mobile app. This makes “Trial Planning” (and later final delivery) difficult for us given we cannot make such changes.

Do you have any insight into how we can make a submission for such a solution?

Cheers,
Max

Hi Max,

You can view the recording of our information session here.

Thanks,
Brandon

Cheers @Brandon,

How about my second question, do you have any info you can share about submissions that require changes to existing Transport-owned software?

Thanks,
Max

Hi Max,

We recommend outlining what additions you propose in the application form and how it would integrate as well as recommendations of UI changes. We’re open to solutions that add features to the Opal Travel mobile app. As part of the trial planning section of the application form, pitch how you would demonstrate your solution in a test environment to show proof of value. For example: Explain how you could provide access to this feature with test groups through a prototype. Changes to TfNSW digital product and solutions must first be tested and trialled before deployment or changes.

Thanks,
Brandon

I’m interested I have an idea and prototype ready

Hi Brandon,

Do we need a working prototype for eligibility or it can be a proposal and pitch documents would be enough.

Where it outlines all the project and idea of how to improvise based on the Provided API’s.?

Cause I just saw this today while I’m interested in this. I might not be able to build complete working prototype by 19th.

Please let me know even if submit application on 19th Feb will it be considered?

Thanks

Hi,

Just outline your solution and how you would build and test your prototype in the application form. We’re not expecting working prototypes as part of the application.

Feasibility is an assessment criteria so make sure your explaining how you will be trial ready and timings. For example, it could take you 7 weeks to build, and a 5 week trial. Or 4 weeks to build and a 10 week trial.

A wire frame or process map or user journey can be included as part of your application form to help us understand your idea.

Thanks,
Brandon

What do we mean by underserved communities?

We’re referring to groups who may face difficulties or barriers when accessing public transport. This typically includes individuals with vision impairment, wheelchair users, the elderly, and those with reduced mobility. These are considered high priority customer groups, as they may have unique needs and require additional support or accommodations to use public transport effectively. The goal is to ensure these underserved communities have equitable access to the public transport network.
