Rollout of Contactless Payments on Bus Services

Contactless transport payments are currently being rolled out to all Opal-enabled buses in stages. Transport expects that contactless payments will be available on all buses in the Opal network by the end of October.

This dataset has been updated with a new file that is current as of Sep 16.

This dataset has been updated with a new file that is current as of Sep 23. This is the final update for now of this dataset since all STA Buses are now CTP enabled.

hi @alejandro.felman could you please confirm whether contactless payment data is included in the Opal data sets as published via Open Data?

Hi Matt - which dataset are you referring to? I believe the older data sets would not have included Contactless Payments however some of our newer datasets do include it and certainly the patronage type numbers do include it.

Thanks
Yvonne

:+1: thanks @yvonne.lee just mean the current patronage data sets - so you’ve confirmed that we don’t need to download multiple data sets to get patronage figures… there was a rumour that the contactless payments weren’t going into the current data sets, so I figured best to go straight to source…

No worries. Just an FYI the current ‘counts’ and therefore estimates for occupancy on buses are not including contactless payments. That could be where the rumours are coming from. We are trying to rectify that (no ETA).
